The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the McDan Group, Daniel McKorley, has advised students of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) to work hard towards becoming entrepreneurs.

He said this during the McDanYouthConnect event which was held at the school on Friday, June 30, 2023.

Addressing the audience, Dr. McKorley emphasized the importance of perseverance and hard work in achieving entrepreneurial success.

“Never let anyone convince you that your dream and vision to be an entrepreneur is something that you shouldn’t pursue. Just know that nothing comes easy in business or life, and you must work for it daily,” he said.

Drawing from his personal experiences, McKorley shared the reality of facing failures and setbacks along the entrepreneurial journey.

He encouraged the students to embrace failure as a valuable learning curve, reminding them that each individual has the choice to either allow it to destroy their dreams or use it as a stepping stone to greater achievements.

Reflecting on his journey, McKorley acknowledged the rejections and challenges he encountered but persisted due to his unwavering determination and commitment to his business and personal plans.

“I have experienced failures in various ventures — too many for me to count — but what I have always done is dust myself clean and refocus on my objectives. This is the mindset that I want the next generation to adopt,” he noted.

During the #McDanYouthConnect event, he  engaged in a town-hall conversation, where he listened to the students’ business ideas and shared his own experiences, both positive and negative. Focus on your passion, dreams because failures are inevitable – McDan to youth

The Chairman of the McDan  Group, Dr. Daniel McKorley ( McDan ) ), has challenged students of the University of Cape Coast not to allow themselves to be swayed to think that their dreams and visions of becoming entrepreneurs should not be pursued.

He explained that while there are always challenges on the path to achieving anything, they should be guided by the fact that nothing good comes easy either.

“Never let anyone convince you that your dream and vision to be an entrepreneur is something that you shouldn’t do. Just know that nothing comes easy in business or life, and you have to work for it every day,” he said.

Dr. Daniel McKorley was speaking to the students during the McDan YouthConnect stop in Cape Coast.

While addressing the charged gathering, he told them that at some point in their lives, they will fail but that is just the hard truth but it should not deter them.

Failure, he added, is inevitable, but each of them have the choice of either allowing it to destroy our dreams or let it be a valuable learning curve for them.

Speaking to them about his personal journey in entrepreneurship, Dr. Daniel McKorley said that he also had his fair share of rejections and challenges, but he continued to persist because he had set business and personal plans that he was determined to achieve.

“I have experienced failures in various ventures – too many for me to count – but what I have always done is dust myself off and refocus on my objectives. This is the mindset that I want the next generation to adopt.

“It is okay to be upset when things don’t work out the way you hoped, but you can’t dwell on past failures. You need to pick up the pieces and put them back together. Only this time, use your experience and knowledge to put them back together in a more efficient way,” he added.

Dr. McKorley maintained that everyone’s professional journey is different, but he hopes that his personal story will inspire the young entrepreneurs that look up to him.

He also said that he is hopeful that those who come from backgrounds like his can pursue their passions, as it is their visions and ideas that will shape our futures.

Decades of water problems at Ayalolo schools solved by McDan’s intervention

The students, teachers and other workers at the Ayalolo Cluster of Schools in Accra can now strike the continuous challenge of water they have encountered off their list of To-Dos because a permanent solution has been brought to them.

This is after the Chief Executive Officer of the  McDan  Group, Dr. Daniel McKorley, brought a permanent solution to their water plight by installing a water tank on the school premises for them.

Gathering with some authorities from the schools, plus others from the Ghana Water Company Limited in the area, the students were allowed access to the new source of water, while some authorities heaped praise on the McDan  boss for the kind gesture.

Nii Atsire Agbo, who spoke on behalf of the McDan  boss, told the children that education is as important as having good, reliable drinking water.

“Education is the redemption you need to move from what you didn’t know to the point where you can say that you now know. Education is your life, so guide it well. And to get educated without water, and since you know water is life.

“It is for this reason that we reached out to  McDan  about the challenges we were facing with water here, and so we spoke with McDan , and he came to our aid,” he said in Ga.

Making the presentation, he also told the gathering that Dr. Daniel McKorley, being aware that the school would also need to pay some water bills going forward, had sent them an amount of GH¢3000 to help.

The teachers and the students expressed their thanks to the businessman.

McDan Leads Private Sector For AfCFTA Implementation

The Chairman of McDan Group of Companies, Dr. Daniel McKorley has rallied the private sector as crucial partner in the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

He said the private sector has a crucial role to play in the success of AfCFTA.

Acknowledging these needs, Dr. Daniel McKorley led the McDan Group to present a practical paper on the introduction of AfCFTA National Trading Companies at the 2nd Ministerial Retreat on the African Continental Free Trade Area in Nairobi City County, Kenya.

At the 2nd Ministerial Retreat, industry stakeholders, Ministers of trade and Government representatives converged to highlight actions, solutions, and progress of the AfCFTA Implementation Matrix and roadmap.

The retreat reached a consensus on a combined effort for the successful implementation of the project which McDan believes, the private sector has a major role to play.

The AfCFTA is the world’s largest free trade area bringing together the 55 countries of the African Union (AU) and eight (8) Regional Economic Communities (RECs).

The overall mandate of the AfCFTA is to create a single continental market with a population of about 1.3 billion people and a combined GDP of approximately US$ 3.4 trillion.

The AfCFTA is one of the flagship projects of Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want, the African Union’s long-term development strategy for transforming the continent into a global powerhouse.

As part of its mandate, the AfCFTA is to eliminate trade barriers and boost intra-Africa trade. In particular, it is to advance trade in value-added production across all service sectors of the African Economy. The AfCFTA will contribute to establishing regional value chains in Africa, enabling investment and job creation.

The practical implementation of the AfCFTA has the potential to foster industrialisation, job creation, and investment, thus enhancing the competitiveness of Africa in the medium to long term.

The AfCFTA entered into force on May 30, 2019, after 24 Member States deposited their Instruments of Ratification following a series of continuous continental engagements spanning since 2012.
