Ghana is fast losing the battle for quality and relevant Education – Dr. Daniel McKorley

Group Chairman of the McDan Group, Dr. Daniel McKorley has said Ghana is fast losing the battle for quality and relevant Education.

Dr. McKorley who was a guest speaker at the 2018 edition of the SME and Young CEO’s Summit explained that our ability to become competitive and stay at the upper levels of global business depends on our ability to produce and retain skilled and competent labor. That means that Ghana’s education must be world class in the caliber of people trained for the job market. Yet, as we are all aware, this is one area we may not be doing too well. From content to focus and philosophy, our graduates have consistently exhibited shortcomings once they are absorbed into business.

.

The reigning Marketing Man of the year observed further that “Our universities have been criticized for failing to craft subjects and syllabi that reflect the needs of industry and the complexities of modern business. But who is listening? Not much seem to be change in the midst of this complaint.

“I need to stress that Industry itself has been accused of being aloof and detached and not investing in the development of education and academic research. Wherever the blame lies, one thing is clear; Ghana is fast losing the battle for quality and relevant education and the earlier something is done about this the better it is to avoid the necessity of having to import skilled labor in the future Dr. McKorley opined.

It’s Christmas, Come And Let’s Make Merry – Mcdan Group Calls Out To The Underprivileged In La.

Over 5,000 people – widows, children and the underprivileged at the La township in Accra and its environs were treated to food, drinks and gifts by the McDan Group during the 2017 Christmas season.

Five kilos of rice, kilos of beef, packets of bottled drinks and other items were given out to the deprived in La who turned up for the event.

The event which was meant for the disadvantaged groups later became a community banquet as the occasion drew scores of residents and their neighbours for merry making.

The excitement continued deep into the night and was characterized by street funfairs with everyone in attendance having something to eat, drink and to take home.

Although,  an overwhelming number of people turned up for the feast beyond the anticipation of the McDan group, a lot of food still remained and were taken unto the streets for sharing.

” The idea behind this feast is to show our gratitude and love to the good people of La. The concept was to make these orphans, widows and the aged happy and I believe we achieved that,” said Jonathan Marley, a senior executive at the McDan Group.

As part of the feast, mineral dispensers were mounted for patrons of the occasion to treat themselves to good drinks alongside kebabs. Children’s dancing competitions were held with the winners walking away with packets of bottled drinks and cash prizes.

The event was in appreciation of the traditional leaders and people of La for hosting the 2017 edition of the  Ga – Adangbe unity football tournament. Over eight township teams participated in the event with several thousands of spectators captivated.

Two thousand dollars cash reward was given to the La Youth Football Association for emerging overall winners of the 2017 Ga – Adangbe unity football tournament.

The McDan Group plans to broaden the scope of the football tournament by extending it it to other regions. The Volta and the Northern regions have been designated for the 2018 edition of the football competition.

According to Jonathan Marley, the company is planning to increase the eight slots for the participating teams to 16.

Meanwhile, the company has said that it will replicate the same gesture during this year’s Ramadan festivities.

Mcdan’s Group Chair Enskinment To Foster Unity Between The North And The South.

A new path of history has been charted for unity and develepment between the northern and the southern Ghana, owing to the enskinment of the Group Chairman of McDan, Dr. Daniel Mckorley as the Gugba Naa of the Tamale traditional area in December 2017.

As tradition demands, the chief of the northern region and his associates paid a courtsey call to the La Mantse, Nii Tettey Kpobi Tsuru III, a week after the enstoolment of Dr. Daniel Mckorley.

The visit was to formally introduce and inform the chief of La about the enstoolment of one of his subjects as the Gugba Naa of the northern region.

In line with the tradition of the Dagomba’s, the chief of Tamale also announced the new chieftaincy title of Dr. Daniel Mckorley, “Gugba Naa” to the La Mantse.

Dakpema Naa Ahassan Dawuni, respectfully entreated the chief of La to call the McDan group chairman as such along with all his kinsmen and subjects.

The Tamale chief in his speech to Nii Tettey Kpobi Tsuru III, indicated that the gesture will foster a strong cultural exchange between the north and the south going forward.

Again, the Dakpema Naa Alhassan Dawuni was very optimistic that the title “Gugba Naa” meaning ‘unifier’ conferred on Dr. Mckorley will unify both tribes for development.

Enthused by the honour done the group chairman of McDan, the La Mantse appreciated the courtesy of the northerners. As a sign of unity and friendship, the chief of La wore a smock presented to him by the Dagomba’s to signify his acceptance of the mission by the delegation from the north.

“…We have a shared history. The Ga’s and the Dagomba’s both migrated from the Northern part of Nigeria so we are one people. It’s now time to leverage our unique cultures for our collective development,” the La Mantse said.

The Tamale chief also used the occasion to extend an invitation to the people of La for an “Owari” a local game championship in the north on the 5th of March this year.

Cultural drums, songs and dances from both tribes were ecstatically performed to usher both parties into a renewed friendship for cultural exchange.
