McDan Foundation Supports Maritime Education with Scholarship Programme
The McDan Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of McDan Group, has awarded full four-year scholarships to 30 students at the Regional Maritime University (RMU) in Accra. The scholarships cover tuition fees, accommodation, textbooks, and a monthly stipend, and are targeted at students from underserved communities who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to the maritime and logistics sector.
"Ghana's logistics industry is growing rapidly, and we need a pipeline of well-trained professionals to sustain that growth," said Dr. Daniel McKorley at the scholarship award ceremony. "These scholarships are an investment in both the students and the future of our industry."
The scholarship recipients are enrolled in programmes including BSc Maritime Transport and Logistics, BSc Port and Shipping Administration, and Diploma in Freight Forwarding and Customs Management. Each student will also complete internship placements at McDan Shipping Company Limited, gaining practical industry experience alongside their academic studies.
This latest initiative brings the total number of maritime education scholarships funded by the McDan Foundation to over 150 since the programme's inception in 2018. Several previous scholarship recipients are now employed in the Ghanaian logistics industry, including three who have joined McDan Shipping's operations team.
The McDan Foundation also supports community development programmes in education, healthcare, and sports across Ghana, reflecting the Group's belief that business success and social responsibility are inseparable.
