Industrial Cargo Transportation for Power Sector
The Challenge
Transportation of three gas turbine units weighing 85 tonnes each from Takoradi Port to a thermal power plant 120 kilometres inland. The route included a narrow bridge with a 60-tonne weight limit, several sharp turns through urban areas, and an unpaved final approach to the plant site. The client required delivery within a 6-week window to meet commissioning deadlines.
Our Solution
Our project cargo team conducted a comprehensive route survey over two weeks, identifying all physical constraints and developing mitigation strategies. We arranged temporary bridge reinforcement in coordination with the Ghana Highway Authority, secured police escorts for urban sections, and graded the final approach road. Custom-engineered transport cradles were fabricated to distribute loads across multi-axle hydraulic trailers.
The Outcome
All three turbine units were delivered safely to the plant site with zero incidents. The operation was completed in 4 weeks, two weeks ahead of the contractual deadline. The bridge reinforcement was subsequently adopted as a permanent upgrade, benefiting the local community.
